New record at the Nürburgring, Pagani Zonda R

Marc Basseng did it. He managed to do the circuit in 6:47. That IS fast. The test was done and recorded by the "ring authority", german Sport Auto.

Porsche GT 3 RS at Goodwood

The car of the moment, before the GT2 RS arrives that is....

Transtar Dagger GT

An amazing concept has shown up from the US. The Dagger GT will be aimed at being the fastest car, with less posing than the other "fastest" brands. At least this is what the company says.

The press release:

-----------------

The 2000 horsepower, 300 mph Dagger GT by TranStar Racing, LLC

Join the rebellion!

It's time to smile and have fun again! "Extreme" is back! The 2000 hp, 300 mph Dagger GT's design objectives are to be the best-looking, fastest Supercar in the world. This Supercar is being specially designed, very deliberately and explicitly, to break all world records and to bring back the most popular class of race car: the unlimited class which has been regulated, restricted and compromised into extinction. Join the rebellion as we break every rule there is, and break every world record for production Supercars. We will not quit until we achieve these goals:

Top horsepower/torque: 2000 hp/2000 ft lbs (given)
Top Speed: 300 mph, plus
Quarter mile: 200 mph and < 6.7 seconds
0 to 60 mph: < 1.5 seconds
Lap records at: Nurburgring and Virginia International Raceway.
Each Dagger GT will be carefully hand-made by exceptional, enthusiastic craftsmen. Each car will be custom-made to the owner's preferences and desires. You can order: one of three (3) hard-core racing models; a street-legal comfortable-riding sport model, or a soft-riding, luxurious GT-X model that looks and feels like a million-dollar car, but runs like a bat-out-of-hell. We plan to deliver 5 production Daggers in 2011. Each Dagger will be 49-state street-legal if desired by the buyer.

The base MSRP of the Dagger GT-S or "Sport" model is $450,000 plus custom work, if requested. Deliveries are scheduled beginning in the first half of 2011. Production is very limited to maintain exceptional, over-the-top quality and fine craftsmanship. We have 2 more sales to go before we close out our 2011 production allotment of five (5) units. After the first five units are under contract, we will begin negotiating purchase orders for 10 units to be delivered in 2012.

The Dagger GT is based on an exceptional mid-engine concept car, the Corvette Cheetah, created by the brilliant industrial designer, Ivan Luccion. Our consulting lead designer is Phil Frank, designer of the world record-setting Saleen S7 Supercar which recently won the 24 hours of LeMans. Each Dagger GT is custom-made from 100% proven, guaranteed, off-the-shelf racing components and hand-built to the highest standards by experienced, exceptional supercar craftsmen. The car features an over-the-top big block, 2000 hp aluminum, twin turbo 572 multifuel racing engine, routinely built by Nelson Racing Engines. The engine is also "streetable." A custom TranStar/Mendeola 6-speed transaxle geared to 308 mph is also featured. The transaxle is designed to withstand the 2000 foot-pounds of torque delivered by the engine. The Dagger GT also features a high-strength 4130 Chromoly Steel chassis. A space-age carbon fiber body will be fabricated by the aerospace industry.

The next gen Mercedes CLS AMG

A very good glimpse of the upcoming CLS AMG from the pros at AMS TV.

Graham-London Silverstone Stowe GMT

OK, I give up. The new Silverstone Stowe GMT from Graham-London is cool enough!

The press release:

-------------

SILVERSTONE STOWE GMT RED & SILVERSTONE STOWE GMT GREEN
A RACING LINE
This impressive racing timepiece is decidedly dedicated to breathless lives and speed addicts. A specific streamlined design and highly-specialized features make the Silverstone Stowe Racing line unique. Graham-London’s knack for performance led to the creation of these beautiful bi-compax chronographs which features tachymeter and GMT functions.
The harmony of the different versions dedicated to traditional racing colours and its name Stowe refer to a corner of the Silverstone circuit. They have been chosen to pay tribute to racing events of the 60s.

This impressive 48 mm steel case watch is a true racing machine and is limited to 250 pieces for each dial version. It was named after a right-angled sharp turn of the Silverstone Circuit, the Stowe Corner. Every single detail exudes the atmosphere of speed and adrenaline. First of all the watch offers a sophisticated Flyback mechanism enabling the user to reset the chronograph to zero without stopping it first. After releasing the Flyback pusher, the seconds hand will restart immediately from zero. The Flyback function allows the user to re-start timing quickly with one push of a button.
This feature was originally used by pilots to time the consecutive legs of a flight plan without losing time for stopping the watch each time.
The black PVD case features a black concave bezel made of carbon fibre, contrasting with a red or green ring indicating a second time zone also called GMT function. The crown is secured by an additional hexagonal bolt, whereas the oval pushers for the chronograph controls bear the same grip surface as the pedals of a racing car.
To provide the best contrast, the same as for racing cars who can be spotted easily on the track thanks to distinctive colours, the Silverstone Stowe models sport a unique racing colour on the rim of the minute counter and the second time zone.
The GMT function enables the simultaneous reading of two time zones. It can be adjusted in steps of one hour independently from the regular hour hand. A tachymeter scale has been added to provide even more functionality to this already dynamic time instrument, offering a sophisticated function which enables to measure average speed over a certain distance.
The racing suit would not be complete without a special “tyre tread pattern” strap. The red or green inset on the strap repeats the dial colour scheme of the Silverstone Stowe.

BMW Art Car, Jeff Koons M3 GT2

Here is the Art Car which BMW competed with at this years Le Mans. The more I watch the car, the more stunning it looks. Wonder if someone can copy it in wrapping?

The Hennessey Venom

Instead of a bunch of pictures, you can watch them all in this static video.

The press release:

EALY, TEXAS & SILVERSTONE, ENGLAND, June 14, 2010 - Hennessey Performance is proud to announce the delivery of the company’s first production-ready Venom GT supercar. Having left its UK production facility, the Chassis Number 01 Venom GT is headed to the UAE where it is to be delivered to its new owner by Hennessey's exclusive Middle East distributor, Al DiMora of DiMora Motorcar.

“This is the fulfillment of a dream that I have had since I was a kid”, says company founder, John Hennessey. “But it is also just the beginning as we begin to demonstrate the performance capabilities of the Venom GT in the near future”.

The top tier model, the first production Venom is powered by a twin turbocharged Chevrolet LS-series aluminum V8 producing 1,200 hp and 1,135 lb-ft torque mated to a 6-speed Ricardo manual transaxle (the same as found in the Ford GT). Boasting a dry weight of just 2,548 lbs and a curb weight of 2,685 lbs with a full tank of fuel, the car delivers on its promise of an astounding power-to-weight ratio.

Harnessing this power is a chassis that is a far cry from the Lotus Elise which it's derived. Aside from reusing the windshield, doors, roof, floor, dash and various trim components, the Venom GT's design and construction has been engineered from the ground up for a truly unique supercar. An all-new front and rear space frame and suspension is cloaked in a new carbon fiber body, sporting an adjustable rear wing for exceptional high-speed stability.

Production levels of the Venom GT range from the base 725 hp supercharged LS9 V8 unveiled in the original prototype car to 1,000 hp and 1,200 hp twin turbo V8 variants. Each vehicle is painted and its interior crafted to each owner's specification, offering the opportunity for one-off exclusivity.

Each Venom GT is built in Silverstone, England, with power plants sourced from HPE's Texas headquarters. Available in both left and right-hand drive configuration, the Venom GT is an international supercar fusing the power and emotion of American V8 muscle with the refinement of Britain’s renowned racing heritage.

Official BMW-video: The M3 GTS

With enlarged engine displacement, 450 HP and an considerable weight reduction, the GTS is BMWs GT3-candidate.

Breaking: Porsche 997 GT2 RS

As all of us has been expecting the last weeks - the GT2 RS!

Full press release:

--------------

620 Highly Efficient Turbo-Horsepower: Most Powerful Street-Legal Porsche of all Times

Stuttgart. The time: seven minutes, 18 seconds on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The power: 620 hp. The weight: 1,370 kilograms or 3,021 lb in road trim with all fluids on board. The car: the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The GT2 RS is making its world debut at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25th.

The future top GT model marking the absolute climax in the 911 range is the fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart. With power up by 90 hp and weight down by 70 kilograms or 154 lb in comparison with the 911 GT2, the new 911 GT2 RS has a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.21 kilos or 4.9 lb per horsepower, by far the best power/weight ratio in its class. Obviously, these are the ideal ingredients for an ultra-high-performance sports car with supreme agility, truly blistering performance on the road, and of course exemplary Porsche Intelligent Performance. For despite this extra power and performance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions versus the 911 GT2 are down by approximately 5 per cent to 11.9 ltr/100 km (equal to 23.7 mpg imp) and 284 g/km.

The 3.6 litre six-cylinder boxer engine boosted by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry exclusive to Porsche in its combination with a gasoline engine drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Developed especially for the 911 GT2 RS, sports tyres measuring 325/30 ZR 19 convert this massive power into equally massive performance and acceleration on the road: 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in just 9.8 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 28.9 seconds. Top speed is 330 km/h.

Equally supreme stopping power on this ultra-high-performance sports car comes from PCCB composite ceramic brakes. Appropriate longitudinal and crosswise dynamics are ensured by the sporting RS set-up of the springs, PASM Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management, anti-roll bars, as well as the dynamic engine mounts and PSM Porsche Stability Management.

In its looks the new 911 GT2 RS stands out clearly from the 911 GT2 above all through the lavish use of carbon-fibre-reinforced (CFR) components in matt-black surface finish, even wider wheels and flared wheel arches at the front, new 911 GT2 light-alloy wheels with central locking, as well as ”GT2 RS“ model designations on the doors and rear lid. The upgraded front spoiler lip and the rear spoiler lip made of CFR and now 10 millimetres or almost 0.4 inches higher, again in surface carbon finish, ensure the right aerodynamic precision as well as extra downforce.

The interior also exudes the flair of sporting performance in virtually every detail, featuring lightweight bucket seats made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic in carbon surface finish and lightweight door panels with door opening straps. The basic interior colour is black, contrasting attractively with features such as the seat centre sections and the roof lining as well as segments on the steering wheel rim. The gearshift and handbrake lever are both finished in red alcantara.

Limited to just 500 units, the 911 GT2 RS will be available in Europe from September 2010, in the USA from October 2010. The Euro base price is 199,500.- Euro. Including VAT and national specifications/equipment the new 911 GT2 RS will retail in Germany at a price of 237,578 Euro.
